Don’t want your kids scrolling through Facebook at home all summer long?

Here’s what to do with your theatre hungry kid or teen for the summer in New England!  From classes to full scale shows for all ages, check out a few of the great local programs below for some ideas to keep your young actor busy and thriving:

Actors’ Shakespeare Project Summer Youth Intensive– a three week program for high schoolers to explore Shakespeare’s language and stories

ACT Summer Day Program– Arlington Children’s Theatre’s three two-week sessions for ages 6-11

BCT Summer Studios–  Boston Children’s Theatre offers an extensive array of classes for various age groups and experience levels.

Gloucester Stage Company– Youth Acting Summer Workshops north of Boston

Lyric First Stage– for young artists 14-20 for an intensive 5 week program.

New Repertory Theatre Summer Studio– A 5 week program geared towards high school students

Reagle Music Theatre– Summer Camp Program with training in voice, acting and dancing West of Boston

Riverside Theatre Works– A variety of classes and workshops for all ages

The Un-Common Theatre Company– Summer production for teens aged 16-21

True Colors Summer Company– A six week training program for LGBT youth and their straight allies aged 14-22

Wheelock Family Theatre– An extensive list of Summer 2011 Classes for various ages

The Young Company– Stoneham Theatre’s program for various ages culminates with full-scale productions of popular Broadway shows

Jeremy Johnson is the Member Services Mananger at StageSource and has been since graduating Emerson College in 2000. He has also worked as a freelance director throughout New England at companies including Gloucester Stage, Foothills Theatre, Stoneham Theatre, The Theater Offensive, Mill 6 and Boston Directors' Lab. He's worked backstage at "Blue Man Group" and onstage at "Shear Madness". His production of "Speech & Debate" at the Lyric Stage Company of Boston won the 2009 Elliot Norton Award for Best Production for a Mid-Size Company. He has also taught at The Cambridge School of Weston, Beaver Country Day School, Gann Academy, The Winsor School and Walnut Hill School for the Arts.
